Chapter Eight

Aria awoke to morning sunlight and strange metallic sounds coming from the living room. What was that?

Rolling over, she realized the spot beside her where Kole had been was empty. So he must be making those sounds.

She laid back on the pillow, reliving what happened between them, and she couldn’t help but smile.

It was amazing and new. All of it.

Her stomach flipped and flopped every time she thought of Kole. His eyes, the way he looked at her. The way he made her feel like a goddess without even touching her. And the way he’d held her while they slept…

Nothing had ever felt so right. In such a short time, she’d gone from feeling flawed to feeling complete.

There was zero doubt that this is where she belonged. Right here, with him.

But he’d stopped himself from going further last night, so maybe he still needed some convincing that she was on board.

She pressed her lips together already concocting ways to do just that.

“Oh, good. You’re awake,” he said, peeking through the bedroom door.

“Of course I’m awake. Who could sleep through the noise you’re making?”

His eyes raked over her sheet covered body and she was instantly a live wire, ready for a repeat of last night.

“Well,” he murmured, walking forward. “Someone did tell me she wakes up early because she doesn’t like wasting sunrises.” He hooked one finger over the top of the sheet and dragged it down so her breasts were exposed. “So, how could I know you wanted to sleep in?”

She snuggled deeper into the pillows.

“Your bed is comfy. It was worth the wasted sunrise.”

He smirked, finally dragging his eyes back up to hers.

“So, what’s on the agenda today?” she asked, stretching with her arms overhead–as if she wasn’t casually pushing her boobs out to lock in his attention.

But the man was too careful. He put distance between them, leaning against the wall opposite the bed.

“After breakfast, I thought we could try spelunking.”

Okay, maybe she was still reeling from their encounter, but that sounded… dirty.

“Spe… what? Is that something sexual?”

Kole looked surprised, but tried to cover it with a cough.

“Because I really liked what we did last night,” she added quickly.

At that, he threw his head back and laughed. Wow. What a nice sound. She totally loved making him laugh, even though he was clearly laughing at her expense.

“What?” It was contagious too, because she couldn’t help but laugh along with him. “What did I say?”

Eventually, he sobered enough to speak.

“Even though I also enjoyed last night–immensely, in fact–”

“Immensely?” she squeaked. If he kept saying nice things, she was going to pounce on him.

He chuckled again. “Excessively, madly, terribly, greatly. But even still, the activity I’m proposing isn’t sexual.”

“Oh.” She sat back against the headboard, pretending to pout.

“Don’t worry, little mate.” His voice was husky with promise. “There will be plenty of that later.”

“Fine. So, what’s this spel… doodly doo… about?”

“I want to take you exploring in the caves near the hot springs. Spelunking.”

Aria perked up. “Oh, you mean caving? I love caving! There weren’t many around where I grew up but I’ve been in a cave or two.
